Kale Dalla Costa could not duplicate his success on Saturday, winning the boys' singles and doubles titles as his unit and T&T's two other teams suffered defeats in their respective matches in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) COTECC Under-12 team competitions on Monday at the National Racquet Centre in Tacarigua.
Playing on court six, Dalla Costa was outplayed by his Mexican opponent in both the singles and then in the doubles with partner Jayden Mitchell. Isaiah Boxill also suffered a similar fate in his singles match.
Both Dalla Costa and Boxill were beaten by Luis Flores and Mauricio Schtulman, respectively, by the same margin of defeat, 0-6, 0-6 in the singles phase of the competition. There was not much improvement in the doubles match as duo Dalla Costa and Mitchell were then beaten by the pair of Flores and Schtulman, 1-6, 0-6.
Next door on court five, T&T's other team was also swept, 3-0, by the Dominican Republic.
In the singles matches, Zackery Byng was defeated by Isaac Guerrero, 7-5, 6-0 and James Hadden lost to Alvaro Perez, 6-1, 6-3. In the doubles match, Byng and partner Alexander Merry fell to Perez and Jam Garcia, 6-1, 6-4.
In the girls' category, Cameron Wong gave T&T some glimmer of hope against Mexico winning her singles match but the host country was beaten in the other singles and doubles matches, losing 1-2.
Wong was the lone player getting a win after beating Sandra Arguelles, 7-6 (4), 6-0 in her singles match while Jordane Dookie was beaten by Marianne Angel, 6-7 (5), 1-6. Later, Wong partnered with Jaeda-Lee Daniel in their doubles match against Angel and Daniela Garzon but lost 2-6, 0-6.
In St John's, Antigua where the COTECC Wadadli Bowl U-14 singles competition is unfolding, T&T's Jace Quashie and Nathan Martin will aim to maintain their good form when they face off against their opponents in their respective semifinal matches today.
Top-seeded Quashie will take on Bermuda's Antonio Warner while Martin will be challenged by Jaiden Julien of Antigua with both local players hoping to meet in the final.
