"Not too long ago, I heard about my good friend Michael McComie’s passing. It was a very, very sad day for me. Obviously, my thoughts and my prayers are with his family."
These were the words of former national football player Dwight Yorke on learning of the passing of his former teammate McComie. The former national and St Augustine goalkeeper died on Tuesday afternoon at the Mt Hope Medical Hospital, Mt Hope. He was 46.
It is understood that Mc Comie who last coached at the T&T Under-20 level had a tumour in his head and was rushed to the Hospital where he considered to be brain dead.
Doctors performed emergency surgery on the talented T&T goalie before he passed.
Yorke said, "Michael and I played football at a very young age. He became a very good friend of mine over the years. Of course, I was his captain when we played at the World Cup in 1991 and he always greeted me as a ‘skipper’ when he saw me.
"Today football has lost a dear friend. I have lost a dear friend. He will be very sadly missed. I just want to reach out to his family to say I am thinking about them and hopefully if I can be of any help just feel free to be in touch.
"I’m here in Dubai at the moment but my prayers and thoughts are with you all."
The funeral service for McComie will take place tomorrow at Holy Cross College in Arima, from 2 pm.
