Ma Pau Pro League outfit will play its final warm-up match against the National Under-23 Olympic squad this afternoon at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima from 4 pm. Ma Pau defeated Clint Marcelle Football Academy 7-nil at St Anthony's Schools' Ground in Westmoorings, on Saturday as the team brings the curtain down on its preparations for the 2010 Digicel Pro League which kicks-off on Friday.
However, today's encounter will be the final opportunity for players on the 21-man squad to vie for first team selection. It will also give Ma Pau coaching staff which comprise former national players Michal McComie and Angus Eve, a clear indication of which players are comfortable with in the team's system and tactics. The coaching staff would also be hoping that Saturday's goal-scorers Lester Peltier, Trevin Caesar, who notched a double, C. Thomas, Seon Powers, Shandell Samuel and Aquil Selby, will all continue to find the net.
Ma Pau's aim this season is to get its hands on some of the titles that will be at stake among the 11 teams in the league. So far, the coaching saff seems impressed with its new signings which includes Peltier, Elton John, Devon Jamerson, Joel Russell, Powers, the experience duo of defenders Keyeno Thomas and Cyd Gray and Shane Calderon. However, Ma Pau's opposition today will be much stronger and better organised in defence and in attack with the likes of Lanky defender Daniel Cyrus, who scored when the Under-23 Olympic squad held Grenada senior team to a 1-1 draw in a friendly encounter at the National Stadium, St Georges, Grenada last month.
