T & T HEART FOUNDATION
The Trinidad & Tobago Heart Foundation (TTHF) joins the global community this year on World Heart Day to: USE HEART TO CONNECT.
USE HEART TO CONNECT is about using your knowledge, compassion and influence to make sure you, your loved ones and your communities have the best chance to live heart-healthy lives. It’s about connecting with our own hearts, making sure we’re fuelling and nurturing them as best we can, and using the power of digital health to connect every heart, everywhere, improving awareness, prevention and management of Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) globally.
COVID-19 and CVDs
Cardiovascular disease remains the world’s number one killer, resulting in 18.6 million deaths annually. For the 520 million people living with CVD, COVID-19 has been heart-breaking especially due to their higher susceptibility to the virus resulting in persons becoming isolated from family and friends, being fearful of exposure and unable to attend health appointments.
TTHF advocates Healthy lifestyle habits
The TTHF, in honour of World Heart Day 2021, has been engaged in hosting weekly virtual heart health lectures for this month.
The TTHF continues in its commitment to generating awareness and education towards controlling CVD risk factors such as avoiding tobacco products, limiting alcohol consumption, managing unhealthy eating habits and avoiding a sedentary lifestyle, at least 80% of premature deaths from heart disease and stroke can be avoided.
World Heart Day is the world’s biggest awareness-raising platform for CVD and is celebrated every year on 29th September.
