The Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) has announced the appointment of Richard Downie as managing director for T&T.
In a statement, the bank said Downie will assume his new position on August 1, 2021.
He is replacing Gretchen Camacho-Mohammed who has accepted a new position with RBC’s head office in Toronto.
In addition to being Managing Director, Downie will also continue as the bank’s Regional Operating Officer for T&T.
Downie joined RBC in 1988 as a member of the IT team starting as an application programmer. At RBTT, Downie continued his work with IT taking on more progressively senior management roles in both IT and bank operations.
When RBC came back to T&T in 2008, Downie made the transition from IT into the bank’s service delivery unit where he would eventually lead the PanCaribbean team before becoming Regional Operating Officer for T&T in 2018.
Earlier this year, Downie became one of the newest Fellows of the prestigious Institute of Banking and Finance—an exceptional professional recognition for a career dedicated to building out the financial services industry in T&T.
“All of this experience has given Richard a unique insight into how the bank operates,” Rob Johnston, Head of Caribbean Banking, RBC said.
With more than 110 years of dedicated service to the region, RBC has a presence in 10 countries and territories, with 38 branches and over 2,800 employees serving nearly one million clients.
