One man was killed and five others injured after two vehicles collided in Barrackpore on Friday night.
Capildeo Mohan, 51, an operator, of Barrackpore, died on the spot while his wife, two stepdaughters, stepson and the driver of the other vehicle were injured.
According to a police report, the incident occurred around 9:30 pm when Mohan's van collided with a green-coloured Almera taxi driven by a Moruga man along the Rochard Douglas Road. The report stated that the van was speeding. According to the report, the van swerved into a resident's yard, hitting a gate and concrete post. The van then flipped on the hood, trapping Mohan. The fire services used the jaws of life to remove his body.
At Mohan's Cumuto Road South home, his son Mark Rampersad, 23, said the driver of the other vehicle slammed into their van. His mother, Carla Mohan, 51 and sister Keeleeshay Rampersad, 16, are still warded at the San Fernando General Hospital. Mark and his other sister Candice Rampersad, 20, were treated and discharged from the hospital. Barrackpore police are investigating.
