The murder rate continues to spiral after gunmen killed two men in separate incidents on Saturday night.
In one incident, 20-year-old Laurence Villaroel was gunned down by unknown attacker at Celina Circular, Damarie Hill, Guaico.
Villaroel, of Picton Extension Road, Sangre Grande, was attacked while on his way to visit friends. He was shot several times in his chest and about the body. Police said he attempted to run away after being shot but managed only a few metres before he fell into a drain where he died.
Sangre Grande police said they received a trouble call around 10.20 pm and a party of officers, led by Insps Etienne, Lutchman and acting Sgts Nicholas Ramdeen, Ramlakhan and Soopale, responded to the report.
On arrival at the crime scene the police found Villaroel in the drain with several gunshot wounds about the body.
Villagers reported to police that they had heard several gunshots and when they checked outside they found the man lying in the drain motionless.
Donna St Louis, mother of the deceased, was too distraught to speak to the media, but immediately made her way to church at Arima.
District Medical Officer Dr Allana Best viewed the body and ordered its removal to the Sangre Grande Mortuary, from where it will be taken to Forensic Science Center, St James, for an autopsy.
Constable Hermant Gadar, of the Sangre Grande CID, is continuing with the investigation.
Police confirmed that an arrest is imminent and that the suspect is responsible for the last two homicides committed in Sangre Grande and environs.
In the other incident, homicide detectives are seeking the public's assistance in identifying a man who was shot dead at Bon Air, Arouca, on Saturday night.
The victim's bullet-riddled body was found near the Bon Air Secondary School around 9.45 pm.
Police said a resident of the community was walking through a track leading to the Priority Bus Route (PBR) when she stumbled upon the victim.
Police were summoned and the surrounding area was processed by crime scene investigators.
Police believe the victim was killed less than an hour before he was found, although residents did not complain of hearing any gunshots. Police did not find any identification documents on the victim.
The victim, of African decent and with a short hairstyle, will be kept at the Forensic Science Centre in St James until he is identified by relatives for a post-mortem to be performed.
Detectives of the Region Two Homicide Bureau are continuing investigations.
The murder toll stood at 332 as of last evening.
