A 71-year-old man has been charged with drinking and driving.
Police said Fraud Squad detectives were proceeding along the northbound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway near the Caroni Flyover when they observed a silver Toyota Rav 4 being driven in an erratic manner.
The lawmen noted that the driver almost ploughed into their vehicle while continuing to swerve wildly across all lanes of the highway.
“It was clear that the driver was a danger to other motorists and himself,” police said.
The officers subsequently got the driver’s attention and ordered him to pull over.
Police said the sole occupant of El Socorro, had a breath-alcohol concentration of 63 microgrammes, 28 microgrammes over the legal limit.
He was charged and will appear virtually before the Chaguanas Magistrate Court tomorrow.
