A 34-year-old employee of the Ministry of Agriculture was arrested during an anti-crime police exercise in Wallerfield in Arima on Friday 29 May 2020.
A shotgun along with ammunition were seized subsequently.
According to a police report, at about 5.15 am, a party of officers of the Inter Agency Task Force Operations went to Mexico Road where they met the suspect at his home and told him that they were there to execute a search warrant.
The suspect cooperated and took the officers to his room and upon searching it, the officers found one shotgun along with an air rifle, and 80 rounds of 12-gauge ammunition—30 rounds more than the required 50 rounds stipulated in the licence for 12-guage ammunition.
The suspect was told of the offence committed and the shotgun and ammunition were seized, pending further inquiries.
The suspect was taken into police custody and is expected to be charged for possession of ammunition and breaching the conditions of his licence.
The exercise was supervised by Snr Supt Johnson, Supt Subero, ASP Ramaser, Sgt Lucas, Cpl Reid, PCs Lowell, Taylor, Persad and Andrews.
