An anti-crime exercise yesterday in Central Division has resulted in the seizure of several firearms and ammunition.
According to police reports, around 3.30 pm on Sunday, a party of officers attached to the Central Division proceeded to Union Village in Felicity near a public cemetery, where in a bushy area, they found a silver and black coloured metal object resembling a firearm.
The officers then continued on exercise duty and at around 5:15 pm—and based on intelligence gathered—proceeded to a pavilion located at Latchu Trace, Chin Chin Road, Cunupia. A search was conducted and a Taurus revolver was found. It had been hidden under some old pieces of wood wrapped in a red cloth.
The officers then proceeded to Hydraulic Trace, Kelly Village in Caroni where they discovered one Mac-11 submachine gun, fitted with a magazine containing seven rounds of ammunition. The weapon was wrapped in a black cloth and was in a black plastic bag, hidden under several sheets of old galvanize.
No one was arrested in connection with the finds.
