Seven months after Dianedra Samuel heard a rumour that someone murdered her 16-year-old son, Christon Marshall and buried him in a shallow grave in Moruga, police found his body near the La Lune shoreline on Friday.
According to media reports, it was 2 pm on December 28, 2019, in Princes Town, when Christon's father, Ricardo, last saw him in the town. They all lived together with Christon's 13-year-old sister along Buen Intento Road.
But a police report stated that he was last seen home around 6.30 pm on January 2. Samuel reported him missing to Princes Town police around 10.20 am on January 8. He was wearing a white vest, a pair of blue three-quarter pants and a blue slipper.
Around 4 pm on Friday, an informant took Sgt Toussaint, PC Ochoa, PC Hamilton and CSI personnel one mile west along the La Lune shoreline. They walked 60 metres on a hill where the informant dug up a shallow grave. There he extracted bones, a skull, a red bandana, a pair of blue three-quarter pants and what appeared to be a white jersey.
The Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region Three was called in and DMO Dr Daniel ordered the removal of the remains. Daniel was not able to visit the scene because of the dangerous terrain, encroaching high tide and fading light.
Investigators hope that a post mortem will reveal the cause of death. Based on statements received so far, they suspect that Marshall was shot and chopped.
Rumours were circulating about Christon's disappearance, including talk that the Barrackpore West Secondary student was kidnapped and taken to Venezuela. A media report stated that a friend told Christon's family that he went to La Lune or Marac with a man to buy marijuana. The report said that the man denied it but later admitted to the drug run.
