RHONDOR DOWLAT-ROSTANT
Nine people, including one child under the age of 18, are now homeless after a fire gutted their home at Orange Field Road in Carapichaima.
The house was the childhood home of soca artiste Heaven “Snakey” Charles.
Speaking with the Guardian Media at the location, Charles’ sister, Maria Esdelle said the fire broke out about 5.32 pm Thursday.
“Only my brother was home and he was asleep when people alerted him that the house was on fire. He woke up just in time and ran out. He couldn’t salvage anything.”
“The fire started to the back of the house on the top level and in no time it quickly spread on the entire top floor destroying everything. Downstairs of our home was severely water damaged,” Esdelle added.
Esdelle said it was only seven months ago that her mother passed away and now her home is destroyed.
“The fire officials were supposed to return today (Friday) to investigate further for the completion of the report because anywhere we go we need the report. Whoever is willing to help us and knows where we are, are free to come by. We appreciate the help,” Estelle said.
Fire officers of the Fire Prevention Unit are yet to complete their investigations which will determine the possible cause and origin of the fire.
