Cousins shot, one dies
Two cousins from Oropoune Gardens were shot while setting up to make a cook in La Horquetta.
Police reports say at 6 45 pm on Saturday, officers on mobile patrol received reports of a shooting at phase 1 La Horquetta at the corner of Errol Mahabir crescent and Raffie Knowles Street.
Officers were directed to a shed alongside a river bank where they observed the body of a man, dressed in all black, with several gunshot wounds about his body. He was already dead.
He was identified as Jamal White, 33 of Building 4 Oropoune Gardens.
The police said upon further checks they saw another man with gunshot wounds to the waist and back.
Police identified him as Ishmael Belgrave, 23, of Building 3, Oropoune Gardens.
He was taken to the Arima Health Facility, then the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where he is said to be in a stable condition.
Reports stated that the cousins ventured to the area and were in the process of preparing to cook when they were approached by a gunman who fired several shots at them.
Police said that 11 spent shells were recovered at the scene, but a motive is yet to be established.
Cops hurt in Maloney Melee
Three police officers had to seek medical attention after a fracas in Maloney.
Police reports stated that 10 20 pm on Saturday officers on patrol responded to a report at building 19 at Maloney Gardens.
It is said on arrival the officers saw a man fitting the description of the person they were looking for with a firearm in his possession.
The pfficers reported that when they told the man to stop he walked into the building and they has cause to pursue him.
Reports said a struggle ensued. They said during this time a crowd of about 30 people emerged and began throwing bottles and stones.
The battle reportedly reached the carpark area and it was at this time the man allegedly pulled out the gun from the waist of one of the officers and a shot went off and one of the officers was shot in the thigh.
The crowd reportedly grew larger and reinforcements were called in, however, the suspect could not be found.
The shot officer, PC Hannaway was taken to the Arima Health Facility for treatment.
Two other officers also received scrapes and bruises during the incident and had to seekl medical attention as well.
The search continues for the suspect.
