A 27-year-old co­conut ven­dor from Gas­par­il­lo re­port­ed­ly de­fend­ed him­self dur­ing an at­tempt­ed rob­bery while at the Preysal Fly­over. 

Po­lice said around 3 am, the ven­dor told them he was at the fly­over when a man ap­proached and at­tempt­ed to steal mon­ey from him. He said he pulled a knife and used it to fend off the ban­dit.

Of­fi­cers from the Cen­tral Di­vi­sion Task Force (Area South), led by Sgt Black­man re­spond­ed to the in­ci­dent. 

They spoke with the ven­dor, took the weapon as part of their in­ves­ti­ga­tion, and as­sessed the scene. 

The in­di­vid­ual in­volved in the at­tempt­ed rob­bery was tak­en to the hos­pi­tal for treat­ment.

In a sep­a­rate in­ci­dent, a 55-year-old man from South Oropouche is in crit­i­cal con­di­tion fol­low­ing a bru­tal al­ter­ca­tion on Mon­day night. 

Po­lice said around 9.30 pm Wayne Ho­sein, of Mon De­sir Road, re­port­ed­ly be­came em­broiled in a heat­ed dis­pute with an in­di­vid­ual who is a res­i­dent of the same area.

Dur­ing the con­fronta­tion, Ho­sein was se­vere­ly beat­en and left un­con­scious. Fol­low­ing the at­tack, the as­sailant fled the area.

Ho­sein was sub­se­quent­ly tak­en to a near­by hos­pi­tal, where he is list­ed in crit­i­cal con­di­tion. 

Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the mat­ter and are seek­ing any in­for­ma­tion from the pub­lic to help lo­cate the sus­pect for ques­tion­ing. — Rhon­dor Dowlat
