A 27-year-old coconut vendor from Gasparillo reportedly defended himself during an attempted robbery while at the Preysal Flyover.
Police said around 3 am, the vendor told them he was at the flyover when a man approached and attempted to steal money from him. He said he pulled a knife and used it to fend off the bandit.
Officers from the Central Division Task Force (Area South), led by Sgt Blackman responded to the incident.
They spoke with the vendor, took the weapon as part of their investigation, and assessed the scene.
The individual involved in the attempted robbery was taken to the hospital for treatment.
In a separate incident, a 55-year-old man from South Oropouche is in critical condition following a brutal altercation on Monday night.
Police said around 9.30 pm Wayne Hosein, of Mon Desir Road, reportedly became embroiled in a heated dispute with an individual who is a resident of the same area.
During the confrontation, Hosein was severely beaten and left unconscious. Following the attack, the assailant fled the area.
Hosein was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.
Police are investigating the matter and are seeking any information from the public to help locate the suspect for questioning. — Rhondor Dowlat
