A young man who stole over $1,000 worth of alcohol and food items from his mother has been ordered to perform 100 hours of community service.
Twenty-two-year-old Corey Ferraz was warned by San Fernando Senior Magistrate Jo-Anne Connor that if he fails to comply with the order he will be brought back before her for sentencing.
Ferraz had pleaded guilty to larceny dwelling house when he appeared in the First Court.
He stole the items from his mother’s home at Union Hall, San Fernando, on February 24. The items included a $350 bottle of Amaretto, a $275 bottle of Chennet, a $167 bottle of wine, a $300 bottle of Jack Daniels rum, a $300 bottle of Johnny Walker, two tins of sausage valued $40, two packs of Fruta juice valued $20 and a $10 tin of sardine.
When Ferraz was arrested on Wednesday, he confessed, “Boss I stole all them thing from my mother.” He was charged by PC Buchoon.
His attorney John Heath told the magistrate that this was an isolated incident. He said Ferraz attended Presentation College and passed eight subjects.
Asking for a non-custodial sentence, Health said Ferraz had no criminal record and she asked that no conviction be recorded against him as it will have a negative impact on his future.
The alcohol was recovered.
