Police were expected to carry out a second round of interrogation yesterday on a 17-year-old San Fernando boy in custody for the murder of Dr Rudradeva Sharma.
Guardian Media learned that the teen has been a bit quiet but investigators are moving to lay several charges against him for his alleged role in Sharma’s death.
Homicide detectives approached the Director of Public Prosecutions' office last week but were told to carry out further inquiries.
The teen has been in custody at the Child Protection Unit in South Oropouche since being discharged from the San Fernando General Hospital. He has been in a wheelchair as he suffered severe injuries in the crash that killed Sharma and another suspect, Akeem Marine. The teen's mother has been granted visiting priveledges to help him bathe and administer his medication.
A third suspect, Antonio Francois, 19 of Lady Hailes Avenue, San Fernando has been charged with the murder. Francois appeared in the San Fernando Magistrates' Court on January 23, accused of murdering Sharma and Marine. He was also charged with robbing and assaulting Sharma and his colleague Dr Prem Naidoo at Rushworth Street Ext, San Fernando on January 15, stealing their mobile phones and assaulting them. Another charge read that he stole Sharma's Honda CRV SUV.
According to police, Sharma, 38, a general practitioner at the San Fernando General Hospital, died when his alleged kidnappers crashed his SUV along the Solomon Hochoy Highway in Macaulay.
