The search is on for three suspects who pretended to be police officers conducting a roadblock exercise in Barataria, during which they kidnapped and robbed two workers of a quantity of alcohol.
Around 1 pm on August 10, the 34-year-old driver of Santa Cruz and his 22-year-old colleague of Diego Martin – were driving south towards the Churchill Roosevelt Highway in the vicinity of Maritima Plaza, Barataria, in a company vehicle belonging to D Movers, a department of Ansa Mobility, Churchill Roosevelt Highway Extension, Barataria.
They were allegedly stopped by the suspects in what appeared to be a roadblock exercise.
As the suspects requested the driving documents and ordered the victims to exit the truck, they complied and were then bundled into a silver Nissan AD wagon, where they were blindfolded and their hands tied.
Taken to an unknown location, the driver was robbed of two cell phones; TT $260 in cash; and a knife valued at TT $140.
The second victim was robbed of one cell phone; a bank card; and one bunch of keys.
The suspects then took the truck containing the 588 cases of assorted alcohol which the victims had been transporting.
The victims were later released in the Malick area where they freed themselves and reported the matter to the police.
