The son of a Moruga police sergeant was granted $100,000 bail when he appeared before a Siparia Magistrate charged with allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl.
Daryl Jones, a security officer at the South-West Regional Health Authority stood before Magistrate Aden Stroude during a virtual hearing at the Siparia Police Station yesterday.
The charges stated that Jones, 29, of Moruga, allegedly sexually penetrated the daughter of someone he stayed by in Fyzabad last Saturday. The girl’s parents reported the incident to the police, who arrested him later that day.
Following an investigation, Sgt Taylor of the South Western Division’s Child Protection Unit charged him with the sexual penetration of a minor. He was granted bail at the police station.
The prosecution led by Sgt Jesse Jitmansingh did not object to bail and Stroude allowed it to stand. However, it was with the condition that Jones report to police three times per week and that he stay away from Fyzabad.
He was represented by defence attorney Ramnarine Sorjan Singh. The matter was adjourned to November 23.
