Police tased a mentally unstable man after he attacked an officer and threatened to kill him on Friday.
The incident occurred while the police were escorting an ambulance to Clergon Village, Princes Town, after being contacted by relatives of the 28-year-old man on Friday night.
However, on their way, the police saw the man walking along Corial Road, Iere Village, near the cemetery. The officers stopped, approached the man and asked if he would go to the hospital for treatment. Police said he agreed but while being strapped to the stretcher inside the ambulance, he became aggressive.
The man reportedly began pulling and shaking until the straps burst. He then jumped out of the ambulance.
One of the officers tried to get him back into the ambulance but he shouted loudly, “Singh is you and me tonight, I will kill yuh.”
The officer stepped back and warned the man to desist but he began approaching the officer and threatened to kill him. The officer warned him again to calm down but the man tried to hit the officer with his fist. Fearful for his life and the safety of the other people, the officer drew and fired his taser gun, hitting the man in his stomach. The man fell to the ground and was subdued. He was then taken to the ambulance and transported to the San Fernando General Hospital, where he was admitted to the psychiatric ward.
