A San Juan man has been arrested for driving while under the influence of a dangerous drug namely cannabis and exposing a child to a dangerous drug.
The man was held by officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force during an anti-crime exercise in the Laventille district on Thursday.
Police said during the exercise, officers were conducting a road check exercise along Pashley Street, Laventille, between 3:00 pm and 9:00 pm, on Thursday when they had cause to stop a Mitsubishi Lancer motor vehicle with a male driver.
The reports said officers observed the driver smoking a lit cigarette of unusual length and a male child seated in the backseat of the vehicle.
Police arrested the 39-year-old man of El Socorro Road, San Juan, with the offences of driving a motor vehicle under the influence of a dangerous drug namely cannabis and exposing a child to a dangerous drug namely cannabis.
In other incidents, eleven persons were arrested for various offences and a quantity of marijuana seized by officers of the Northern Division’s Crime Suppression Unit, during anti-crime exercises conducted in the Division also on Thursday.
Officers conducted the exercise between 3:00 pm and 9:00 pm during which they conducted several searches and road check exercises in the Arima and Malabar districts.
During the exercise, four suspects were held for shooting and gang-related offences, four for marijuana possession and three for outstanding warrants.
A total of 680 grammes of marijuana were seized during the exercises.
Investigations are ongoing.
