Firefighters are expected to return to the Lloyd Brathwaite Building at The University of the West Indies' St Augustine Campus on Friday, after a fire caused damage to the building on Thursday night.
Fire officials from both the Tunapuna and San Juan Fire Stations, led by Assistant Chief Fire Officer Sampson, responded to the scene at about 7.45 pm and were able to contain and eventually extinguish the blaze, which ignited on the top floor of the building.
A Fire Officer told the Guardian Media at the scene that the fire started in an area used for storage as part of the Student Administration Building.
"There were no injuries and no students were trapped. The fire was contained and put out before spreading to other floors of the building."
UWI Student Guild president Kobe Nathan Sandy told the Guardian Media that he was not aware if student records were damaged in the fire.
"I'm sure if there's any damage it would be reported to the students and staff and if so, what are the actions to be taken," he said.
In a release last evening, UWI confirmed that just after 7 pm, smoke was detected coming from the building.
"The safety and security of staff and students are of paramount importance and the building, which houses the Student Administration, was immediately evacuated," the release stated.
The T&T Fire Service was at the scene up to late last night along with the Campus Incident Management Team and Executive Management.
