Five people have been arrested and one firearm and a quantity of ammunition seized during stop and search and DUI exercises.
The exercises were conducted over the weekend in the North Eastern and Port of Spain divisions.
In a statement today, the TTPS said in the first incident, officers of the Maracas Bay Police Station conducted a stop and search exercise between 7 pm and 10 pm, on Sunday 1st December 2024.
During the exercise, officers stopped a 26-year-old suspect of El Socorro at the Maracas Bay Fishing Village and conducted a search.
The search resulted in officers reportedly finding one Glock 26 pistol loaded with a magazine containing 12 rounds of ammunition in his possession.
Meanwhile, officers of the Port of Spain Division conducted a road and traffic enforcement operation between 11:30 pm on Saturday 30th November 2024 and 4:30 am, on Sunday 1st December 2024.
During the exercise, four people, ages 26 to 46, were arrested for being over the prescribed limit per 100ml of breath.
Investigations are ongoing into all the matters.
