An AR-15 rifle and a pistol were among several items seized by officers of the Central Division Task Force, during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Cunupia district, yesterday.
Confirmation has come from an official release issued by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS).
The release explains that officers conducted the exercise around 2:30pm, on Saturday 1st August 2020, during which they executed a search warrant for arms and ammunition at a guest house along the Southern Main Road, Cunupia.
According to the TTPS statement, a search of the rooms resulted in two men being found with a loaded Taurus pistol in one room, and three men being found with a loaded AR-15 rifle in an adjacent room.
Several cellular phones, knives and a bulletproof vest also were seized.
The five suspects were arrested in connection with the finds.
Investigations are ongoing.
The TTPS reports that over the past four days, eight persons were arrested and 10 firearms were seized by officers of the Central Division.
