A man and his common-law wife charged with land and car fraud were granted $80,000 and $50,000 bail respectively by Justice of the Peace Stephen Young. Damian Ramdath, 39, a self-employed truck driver and Nikita Keisha Mungal, 36 who is also self-employed were charged by PC Ramkissoon of the Fraud Squad.
According to police reports, in the first incident, Ramdath and Mungal received a $26,000 down payment towards the purchase of a parcel of land located in Exchange, Couva which they did not own.
In the second incident, a man reported to police that he paid a woman $5,000 as a down payment for the sale of a Toyota Axio motor vehicle valued at $125,000. The man told police that upon delivery of the vehicle, he was required to pay the balance of the money, however, the woman allegedly failed to deliver the vehicle and attempts to be refunded were unsuccessful.
Following enquiries, Ramdath and Mungal were indicted for the offences. Mungal is scheduled to appear on May 31st, 2022 at the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Court, while she and Ramdath will appear on June 17th, 2022, to answer the joint charge.
