The Christ­mas hat which Hapi­zo­ol Bud­hooram wore be­fore he was knocked down in a hit-and-run ac­ci­dent was found near his body on Thurs­day night.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors said Bud­hooram, 54, a con­struc­tion work­er of Rod­ney Street and Charu­ma Vil­lage, Biche, was found ly­ing un­re­spon­sive on Biche Or­toire Road.

Po­lice said around 9.30 pm, of­fi­cers, in­clud­ing Cpl Guer­ra and PCs Maxime, Men­doza, and De Graff, re­spond­ed to re­ports of a man seen ly­ing in the road­way. Up­on ar­rival, of­fi­cers found Bud­hooram dead.

They said he had vis­i­ble in­juries, in­clud­ing a wound to the left side of his head and tyre im­pres­sions on his chest and face.

Items re­cov­ered at the scene in­clud­ed sun­glass­es, a Christ­mas hat, and ev­i­dence of skid marks 74 feet from the body. The vic­tim’s son, Amir Bud­hooram, iden­ti­fied him.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors re­viewed cam­era footage but are yet to lo­cate the ve­hi­cle in­volved in the dead­ly in­ci­dent.
