One man was arrested and a quantity of marijuana seized by officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force, during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Port of Spain district, yesterday.
Officers conducted the exercise between 10:00am and 11:00pm, on Monday 3rd February 2020.
According to official police reports, officers observed two men walking along Bath Street, East Dry River, Port of Spain. The officers attempted to apprehend the two men, but one of them pulled out a firearm and pointed it at the officers. The officers, in accordance with the Use of Force policy, shot at the gunman, hitting him in the leg.
The other suspect picked up the firearm and ran off.
A search of the area resulted in officers finding two brown packets containing 1.1 kilogrammes of marijuana and $370 in cash.
The drug has an estimated street value of $11,000.
The wounded suspect, a 35-year-old man of Bath Street, Port of Spain was arrested in connection with the find and the shooting incident.
Investigations are ongoing.
