A hap­py 100th birth­day ban­ner was amongst the many dé­cors for the 100th birth­day cel­e­bra­tion of Ms Cyril­la Vir­ginia Thomas. Un­for­tu­nate­ly, Ms Thomas de­part­ed this life on Mon­day 11th Ju­ly 2022 a mere two days be­fore her one-hun­dredth birth­day to­day, Ju­ly 13th, 2022. 

Join­ing was Min­is­ter of So­cial De­vel­op­ment and Fam­i­ly Ser­vices Sen­a­tor the Ho­n­ourable Don­na Cox to posthu­mous­ly ho­n­our Ms Thomas un­der the Min­istry’s Na­tion­al Cen­te­nar­i­an Pro­gramme (NCP). Min­is­ter Cox, orig­i­nal­ly sched­uled to vis­it in ho­n­our of Ms Thomas’ cen­ten­ni­al birth­day, vis­it­ed the fam­i­ly to pay her re­spects and con­vey her con­do­lences. In re­lay­ing her sym­pa­thies, Min­is­ter Cox told the fam­i­ly that it is nev­er easy los­ing a loved one. How­ev­er, she hopes the fam­i­ly finds so­lace dur­ing their time of grief while cher­ish­ing the won­der­ful mem­o­ries that they shared with their loved ones. Min­is­ter Cox then pre­sent­ed the fam­i­ly with a Cer­tifi­cate of Ho­n­our and Achieve­ment, a food ham­per, and oth­er items. 

Ac­cept­ing the items on her late moth­er’s be­half, Ms An­gela Thomas-Charles who reg­is­tered her moth­er for recog­ni­tion un­der the Pro­gramme on April 7th 2022, in­di­cat­ed that she was in­deed pleased that her moth­er was still rec­og­nized by Min­is­ter Cox for her con­tri­bu­tions to the de­vel­op­ment of Trinidad and To­ba­go. She fur­ther in­di­cat­ed that cel­e­bra­tions be­gan one month ago due to her moth­er suf­fer­ing from a stroke and cel­e­bra­tions of her life will con­tin­ue to­day.
