A happy 100th birthday banner was amongst the many décors for the 100th birthday celebration of Ms Cyrilla Virginia Thomas. Unfortunately, Ms Thomas departed this life on Monday 11th July 2022 a mere two days before her one-hundredth birthday today, July 13th, 2022.
Joining was Minister of Social Development and Family Services Senator the Honourable Donna Cox to posthumously honour Ms Thomas under the Ministry’s National Centenarian Programme (NCP). Minister Cox, originally scheduled to visit in honour of Ms Thomas’ centennial birthday, visited the family to pay her respects and convey her condolences. In relaying her sympathies, Minister Cox told the family that it is never easy losing a loved one. However, she hopes the family finds solace during their time of grief while cherishing the wonderful memories that they shared with their loved ones. Minister Cox then presented the family with a Certificate of Honour and Achievement, a food hamper, and other items.
Accepting the items on her late mother’s behalf, Ms Angela Thomas-Charles who registered her mother for recognition under the Programme on April 7th 2022, indicated that she was indeed pleased that her mother was still recognized by Minister Cox for her contributions to the development of Trinidad and Tobago. She further indicated that celebrations began one month ago due to her mother suffering from a stroke and celebrations of her life will continue today.
