The Gender and Child Affairs Division (GCA) partners with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and Child Rights Ambassadors in the creation of the Online Child Protection Animated Video & Quiz. This initiative is geared toward informing children and adults about solutions for child abuse and helping individuals to cope with the mental health aspects of such issues. Details follow in this press release from the Gender and Child Affairs Division:
The Gender and Child Affairs Division (GCA) in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and Child Rights Ambassadors (CRA), launched the Online Child Protection Animated Video & Quiz to help safeguard children as they return to school. The initiative was codeveloped with children for children and adults in commemoration of Child Abuse Awareness month in April 2022. Each participant, will stand a chance to win prizes such as iPhones, iPads, tablets and laptops. The secondary and primary schools that recruit the most participants will also win laptops. While the prize-winning aspect of the promotion will end on July 4, 2022, individuals can still visit www.opm-gca.gov.tt/childcourses to participate in this groundbreaking initiative.
The initiative was developed based on the Social Norms Survey on Violence Against Children completed by The Spotlight Initiative in Trinidad and Tobago (July 2021). The survey revealed that children and bystanders are least likely to report child abuse. As such, the fifteen (15) minute Online Child Protection Animated Video & Quiz seeks to educate children on challenges and solutions related to child abuse, drug use and mental health as they return to school.
Special thanks to our league of extraordinary sponsors and collaborators: UNICEF, the InterAmerican Development Bank, the International Organization for Migration, the Pan-American Development Foundation, B-Mobile, the Children’s Authority of Trinidad & Tobago and the T&T Child Rights Ambassadors.
