Murder is suspected to have occurred on the grounds of Mount St Benedict in St Augustine as the charred remains of a body were found in a car that was set on fire on Friday.
The blaze partially destroyed a building of the seminary that was used as a storeroom to house tables and chairs.
According to a police report, at about 1 pm on Monday officers of the St Joseph Police Station returned to the scene of a fire which was reported to have occurred on Friday at 6.30 pm.
Officers, who returned to the scene, initially went to get the chassis number of the vehicle that was set on fire there as it was believed to have been stolen.
It was upon checking for the chassis number that the officers made the horrific discovery.
Police said the body was covered by the rubble of the partially collapsed building.
A team of officers from the St Joseph Police Station and the Homicide Bureau visited the scene and carried out extensive enquiries.
At the scene, a priest was seen talking to investigating officers.
Visitors to the church expressed "grave concern" that such an act would be done on "holy grounds."
One visitor said: "People have lost all respect for God and the church grounds. This is frightening."
