Police arrested a man in connection with several homicides in the Arima district during an ongoing crime dragnet in the division on Saturday.
According to a police report, the roving exercise was conducted in the Arima District between the hours 4 pm and 11 pm on Saturday. It was coordinated by Supt Edwards, spearheaded by Insp Ward, supervised by Ag. Sgt Haynes and Inspector Black, and included officers of the Arima CID, K-9 Unit, Arima Municipal Police and Northern Division Area East Task Force.
Police said two search warrants were executed in the Malabar area for arms and ammunition but nothing illegal was found.
Officers also conducted a search in an open area off La Retreat Road, near the Guanpo Landfill, where 1658 grams of marijuana, with a street value of $17,000 was found. Police also found 39 rounds of 9 mm ammunition concealed in a black plastic bag in some bushes.
No one was arrested for the find.
The exercise was part of the anti-crime “Operation Purge” initiative launched by the Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith in the division.
Woman planassed,
raped by attacker
A 30-year-old Marabella woman was attacked and raped while walking home on Saturday morning.
According to a police report, at about 7.30 am the victim arrived at the Marabella Police Station and reported the incident. She told police that just after midnight on Friday, she was walking along John Street, Marabella, when she was approached by a man of African descent who was armed with a cutlass. The man, she said, was about five feet nine inches tall, dark in complexion, slim built with short hair and was wearing a black long pants and grey T-shirt. The woman said the man dealt her several blows with the cutlass. He then took her to an abandoned lot along the same street where he raped her.
The victim was taken to the Princes Town District Health Facility where she was medically examined.
Police have since launched a search for the suspect.
Girl, 6, on errand
assaulted by neighbour
A six-year-old girl, who was sent on an errand to a neighbour’s house, told her mother she was “touched” while at the neighbour’s house.
According to a police report, the 37-year-old mother, of Freeport, reported to Freeport police that at about 3.30 pm on Saturday, she sent her daughter to her neighbour’s house to deliver some peas. However, she said approximately three minutes later, when her daughter did not return home, she sent her three-year-old son to call his sister.
After they both returned home, the woman said her daughter allegedly told her that the neighbour had touched her vagina while in a bathroom and had also placed his penis by her vagina.
The girl was taken for medical attention by the police after the mother lodged the report.
An investigator of the Child Protection Unit is yet to be assigned to the case.
Cops ID murder victim
A man who was killed in Laventille on Saturday morning has been identified.
Police said the victim was Kurt Williams, 32, of 21 Upper Warton Street, Laventille.
Police reported that sometime after 8 am on Saturday, a gunshot was heard at Lp 19 Upper Thomasine Street, Laventille. When residents checked later they found a man lying on the roadway with a gunshot wound to the head.
The man was later positively identified as Williams by his sister.
Several persons interviewed since then have indicated to the police that there was a private zesser party at in the area earlier that morning.
The scene was visited by DMO Dr Friday, who made the pronouncement and ordered the removal of the body to forensic.
Also visiting the scene was Sgt Francis and a party of officers of Homicide Region One.
