Citizens will be able to access the new $100 polymer notes from Tuesday, a statement from the Central Bank has advised.
In a statement issued this evening, the Central Bank’s senior manager of External Relations Nicole Crooks advised that “the new polymer $100 notes will be distributed to the commercial banks tomorrow, December 9, 2019 and will be available to the public from December 10 (Tuesday).
The rollout comes after amendments to the Central Bank Act were passed in both the lower and upper houses of Parliament. It followed government’s announcement on Thursday that it was introducing the new bill to counter illicit activities.
National Security Minister Stuart Young said it was a measure “to fight money laundering, including the financing of drugs and narcotics and illegal firearms, tax evasion and the black money economy, counterfeiting and other related problems.”
The Central Bank will host a news conference tomorrow where it is expected to provide further details about the rollout of the new blue notes.
