RHONDOR DOWLAT-ROSTANT
One day before fast-food restaurants are scheduled to reopen for business, one of KFC's outlets in Port-of-Spain has been destroyed by fire.
Police said at about 1.30 am yesterday, police officers received information via the Command Center about a fire at KFC’s outlet at the corner of Charlotte and Duke Streets.
The T&T Fire Service was called in and arriving on the scene were ADFO Stewart and acting FO Castillo of the Wrightson Road Fire Station.
The fire officers told police that they received the information about the fire at 1.30 am and upon arrival were able to extinguish the blaze but could not save the one-story structure. The firefighters also advised that people not enter the building, as it may have sustained serious structural damage during the blaze.
The cause of the fire and estimated cost of damage have not yet been ascertained.
Also visiting the scene was T&TEC overhead lines supervisor Terrance Hunte, Prestige Holdings Facilities Manager Andrew Seuradge and IT tech Ryan Ragbir, as well as officers of Inter-Agency Task Force Charford Court and Duncan Street Police Post.
Fire prevention officers are expected to visit the scene to carry out extensive investigations in a bid to determine the fire's origin and cause.
Restaurants and other food sector businesses are being allowed to reopen today following a second shutdown of activity on April 30 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, they are only allowed to do delivery and curbside pick up.
