There’s been a new addition to the landmarks in the capital city, Port of Spain.
According to a release from the Port of Spain City Corporation, on Tuesday 21st September 2021, the capital observed International Peace Day with the unveiling of a Peace Pole in front of the statute of world-famous cricketer Brian Lara, on the Brian Lara Promenade.
A Peace Pole is an internationally recognized symbol of hope and dreams of humanity, it bears the message "May Peace Prevail on Earth" in different languages on its four sides, there are an estimated 250,000 Peace Poles in every country of the world.
The installation was a project spearheaded by the Rotary Club of Central Port of Spain. Present at the event and sharing messages of peace were: His Worship, Alderman Joel Martinez, Mayor of Port of Spain; Rotaractor Ruqayyah Scott; Interactor Shania Dookie; President of the Rotary Club of Central Port of Spain, Percy Parker Williams; and Peace Chairperson, Debbie Roopchand, who gave a message from the Rotary District 7030 Peace Chair.
