Police are investigating a vehicular accident in Guayaguare in which a 72-year-old pedestrian was killed after two vehicles collided on Saturday.
Peter David, 72, of Food Crop Road, La Brea Village, died at the Mayaro District Facility after the impact threw him 11 feet away from where he was standing.
A police report stated that around 3 pm, a 25-year-old woman was driving south in a black Toyota Hilux pickup along the Guayaguayare Road, La Brea Village. As she neared Food Crop Road, she attempted to overtake a Kia K2700 truck. The truck simultaneously attempted to turn right and both vehicles collided.
The truck driver lost control of the vehicle, which struck David, who was standing at the side of the road.
First responders took both drivers to get medical attention at the health facility.
District Medical Officer Dr Kurapati viewed David’s body and ordered its removal. The body was taken to Boodoo’s Funeral Home, Rio Claro, as there was reportedly no available space at the Sangre Grande Hospital Mortuary. An autopsy is expected at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, tomorrow.
Pleasantville man drowns
in Balandra
A Pleasantville man drowned at Balandra Beach on Saturday. A report stated that Ithiel Arnaud, 27, of Orchid Gardens, was on an excursion with his family.
While bathing on the beach about 25 metres offshore around 3.20 pm, he began experiencing difficulties and began shouting for assistance. As he went underwater, several people ran towards him and brought him back to shore. However, he was unresponsive.
Despite numerous attempts to resuscitate Arnaud, he never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead by medical personnel. (Kevon Felmine)
