A police officer was shot and wounded on Monday night by three gunmen who had just robbed a supermarket in Couva.
According to a police report, at about 8:30 pm, PC Brendon Marcus was on Main Road, Couva, at a gyro stall purchasing dinner, when he was confronted by three men who had just robbed a supermarket located opposite the same gyro stall.
The men, all of whom were armed, opened fire on PC Marcus, who sustained a gunshot injury to the lower right leg.
PC Marcus returned fire with his service pistol; however, the men escaped in a white vehicle whose model and registration are yet to be ascertained.
PC Marcus was taken to the Couva District Hospital where he was attended to. He was then transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital for further treatment.
