The Office of the President has confirmed that President of the Senate, Senator the Honourable Christine Kangaloo, will act as President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, while Her Excellency Paula-Mae Weekes is out of the country.
A statement issued earlier today indicates that Her Excellency currently is abroad, and that Senator Kangaloo will act in her stead.
According to Constitutional convention, the President of the Senate normally acts as the President of the Republic when the sitting President is out of the country.
The following is the brief statement issued by the Office of the President, today…
“Her Excellency Paula-Mae Weekes ORTT, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago is currently out of the jurisdiction. Her Excellency Christine Kangaloo is acting until the return of President Weekes next week.”
