The State has been ordered to release the Point Fortin man charged with beating a ten-year-old girl in Fanny Village last week.
Peter Bharat pleaded not guilty to the charge of assault by beating when he appeared before Point Fortin Magistrate Alicia Chankar on Friday. He was granted $75,000 bail.
However, the documents provided by Bharat’s family that same day was later rejected by Magistracy Registrar Krishna Jaglal.
Filing a notice of application for Interim Relief before Justice Frank Seepersad on Saturday, attorney Gerald Ramdeen was successful as the court ordered the Prisons Commissioner to release the 23-year-old restaurant worker.
It was initially reported that Bharat was attempting to kidnap the girl as she walked to school on Thursday.
During his court appearance on Friday, Bharat was ordered to report twice weekly to the Point Fortin Police Station.
The matter has been adjourned to March 13.
