Fourteen days!
That's the deadline given to Works and Transport Minister Rohan Sinanan by Penal residents to fix their roads.
Residents protested this morning over the deplorable conditions of the roads in the Oropouche West and Fyzabad constituencies. They marched with placards from a massive landslide at La Fortune Pluck Road to another major landslide at San Francique Main Road, Penal.
Warning that this is the start of the October Revolution announced by Opposition Leader Kamla Persad Bissesaar, Councillor Doodnath Mayhroo said the minister needs to fix the roads, the landslips and the flooding issues in the constituencies.
“If these issues are not addressed in 14 days, the minister must resign,” he said.
Councillor Mayhroo warned that protests would escalate and would be worse than fiery protests in Barrackpore and Moruga.
Resident Anarkali Deonanan, 83, who joined the protest, pleaded for something to be done, saying: "We really need help. We need help."
The protest, however, was eventually dispersed by the police.
Also showing solidarity were Fyzabad MP Dr Lackram Bodoe and Oropouche West MP Davendranath Tancoo.
