Vedesh Sookoo, a member of the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment was granted bail for $250,000 when he appeared in court virtually today, charged with possession of firearm and ammunition.
Sookoo was granted a cash bail alternative of $20,000 and the matter was adjourned to May 19th 2021. He was arrested by officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force yesterday morning in Port of Spain.
According to police reports, during an exercise, officers intercepted a white three-tonne truck with three male occupants in the vicinity of the Port of Spain lighthouse. A search of the vehicle resulted in one Smith and Wesson pistol and 28 rounds of ammunition being found under the driver’s seat. The men, a soldier, a Trinidadian, and a Venezuelan were arrested. Sookoo was charged by WPC Skeete.
