Epidemiologist Dr Avery Hinds says data over the past several weeks show a surge in the rate of the transmission of the COVID-19 virus.
Speaking at the Ministry of Health press conference on Wednesday morning, Dr Hinds said the daily rolling average of the virus continues to move steadily upwards.
He said in Epidemiological Week 16, there was a 25 per cent percentage positivity, meaning that 25 per cent of tests that were done returned positive results for the virus. Hinds said 75 per cent of the deaths from COVID-19 are male, while just under 25 per cent are female.
He said in Epidemiological Week 14 and 15 positive cases were detected along the East-West corridor and Eastern counties in large numbers.
In the past week, there have been 11 deaths from the virus and more than 150 new positive cases of COVID-19 daily. Since March 12 2020, there have been 9135 positive cases of the virus.
