A 26-year-old man is today before the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ court charged with the murder of 31-year-old Ricardo Ottley, which occurred on June 13, 2021.
DANE DURELL DOUGLAS, of Sparrow Drive, Simeon Road, Petit Valley, was arrested on April 20th and later charged in Grenada by immigration officials and convicted for the offence of entering the state without the consent of an immigration officer.
An official release from the Police Service states that DOUGLAS was deported from Grenada on April 23, 2022, and was sent into quarantine.
On 11 May 2022, following advice received by Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard SC, Douglas was charged with murder, as well as the additional offences of possession of firearm to endanger life and possession of ammunition to endanger life. The charges were laid by WPC Clarke of Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) Region One Office.
The TTPs release explains that at 6:15 pm on June 13, 2021, officers responded to a report of loud explosions along Sparrow Drive, Simeon Road, Petit Valley. Upon arrival, police officers observed a body slumped on the ground with a gunshot wound. The deceased was identified as 31-year-old Ricardo Ottley.
According to police reports, further enquiries revealed that Ottley was at his home in his apartment, when a man who lived at an apartment downstairs of the same address, allegedly went upstairs to Ottley’s apartment, following which several loud explosions were heard. The suspect allegedly was then seen leaving the apartment, allegedly holding a firearm in his hand.
The investigation was supervised by Inspectors Lynch and Mongroo—both of the HBI Region One—with assistance from the Government of Grenada, the Royal Grenada Police Force, Grenada Customs and Immigration, the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard, as well as officers attached to INTERPOL and the Port-of-Spain Division.
