Thirty-year-old Wayne King is expected to appear at the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court today charged with robbery with violence and assault with intent to rob. Wayne was formally charged by Cpl (Ag) Cato in relation to a robbery in St Helena that occurred on November 13th.
According to police reports, the owner of a grocery was at his business around 7:25 am on November 13th, when three men allegedly entered the establishment and announced a robbery. They allegedly dealt the owner several blows about his body and relieved him of $3,000 from the day’s sales and a quantity of cigarettes.
The assailants then allegedly approached a 42-year-old male who was also in the establishment, dealt him several blows about his body, and proceeded to rob him. However, the man drew his licensed firearm and discharged one round in the direction of the suspects who subsequently fled the scene and escaped in a waiting vehicle.
Police visited the scene and conducted enquiries which revealed one of the suspects was at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex seeking medical attention as a result of a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest. While warded, he was placed under police guard by officers of the Central Division and was discharged on Wednesday 24th November, 2021. He was subsequently charged following ongoing enquiries by Sgt (Ag.) King, Cpl (Ag.) Cato, and PC Cupid. Investigations in relation to the two additional suspects are ongoing.
