A Task Force is to be established to have a comprehensive look and review at the healthcare delivery system in Tobago.
The announcement was made by THA Chief Secretary Kelvin Charles. He was speaking at a news conference held at the Division of Infrastructure’s conference room on Saturday afternoon.
Over the last week, several issues have been raised about the health facilities in Tobago, and many were calling for the removal of the Secretary for Health, Wellness and Family Development Dr Agatha Carrington, however, Charles said, the findings of the Task Force would aid in the Executive Council making informed decisions about the way forward
“We have decided to establish a Task Force being chaired by the chief administrator and that Task Force will include, but not be limited to, the administrator of the division Health, Wellness and Family Development, it will include personnel that are skilled in Human Resource Management, Organization Development, Operations Management which will include maintenance, we shall have representatives from medical personnel such as doctors, nurses and the general public” he said.
The terms of reference Charles said, will include issues relevant to leadership, human resource practices, the organisational structure, payment to suppliers, current challenges facing the health sector and other matters needing urgent and immediate attention.
He said, the role of the Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA) as defined by law, with particular emphasis on their policy oversight and accountability would be looked at
“Generally the committee will take a holistic view of the health sector at this time and will make recommendations to the Chief Secretary for his consideration, the consideration of the board of the TRHA and the consideration of the Executive Council, so that whatever policy position we may have to take at that level, or those levels we can take them” he said.
Charles said, the findings of the Task Force would be made public, once there are no personal incriminating details.
