Police officers had to clear a path for vehicles going into Trinidad Cement Ltd (TCL) this morning as retirees continued their protest at the Claxton Bay-based plant this morning.
The small group, many of whom left the company six or more years ago, marched in a circle at the entrance as they seek to compel the company to pay outstanding Cost of Living Allowances and Gain Sharing payments.
They claim the company owes them these payments as it was part of a collective bargaining agreement between the Oilfields Workers Trade Union and TCL several years ago. Spokesman Learie Mike lamented that as the years go by with them waiting for the money to arrive, many of their colleagues passed away.
He is therefore calling on Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley and Minister of Labour Stephen Mc Clashie to intervene.
