T&TEC could not confirm if ongoing works on the critical bypass transmission would lead to any power outages today, Monday.
But on Sunday, several areas experienced power outages again, however, the T&T Electricity Commission did warn its customers.
In a media release issued yesterday afternoon, the Commission stated that there would be “possible emergency outages in south, central Trinidad.”
The reason given was that construction of a critical bypass transmission line in Rousillac was expected to be completed and would require an emergency outage to install the last poles and lines.
“The bypass line will allow T&TEC to remove a compromised 220 kV (220,000 volts) transmission tower which was damaged as a result of a landslide last Tuesday, August 16,” T&TEC said.
“If required, approximately 15,000 customers in south and central Trinidad may experience an outage between one to two hours, from 2 today (Sunday)” it added.
As up to 5 pm yesterday Guardian Media was informed that works were still ongoing on the transmission tower.
T&TEC’s Corporate Communications Manager Anabelle Brasnell when contacted confirmed the ongoing works and added that she could not confirm whether there would be any more possible power outages today (Monday) just yet.
Last week Tuesday night 30 per cent of the country was left without electricity after a landslide triggered a chain of events that knocked out power to thousands of homes across Trinidad.
There was also a power outage again on Wednesday morning.
T&TEC said then that the landslide in Grant Trace, Rousillac, led to a 220-kilovolt transmission tower shifting, putting excess strain on high voltage lines and resulting in a partial collapse of the tower and lines at 7 pm on Tuesday.
