The Police Service is the recipient of this year’s President’s Award for Service Excellence in the public
sector.
The award was conferred at a ceremony on Tuesday at the Cipriani College of Labour and Cooperative Studies Auditorium in Valsayn.
The ceremony was attended by President of Paula-Mae Weekes and Chief Justice Ivor Archie.
The award is part of a collaborative initiative of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Office of the President of the of T&T , which intends to recognise efforts at revolutionising the public service through innovation in response to ever-changing national challenges.
The TTPS received the award for its work in the Enterprise community, where police successfully decreased the high occurrence of violent
crime and reduced distrust of the police in the Enterprise, Chaguanas area.
Through the work of many internal departmentsm such as the Central Division Criminal Investigations Department, and a strong effort by Community Police operating in the Central Division, violent crime in the area has been drastically reduced.
A statement from the Police Service said many residents now report an increased sense of comfort and safety in navigating the community and an enhanced relationship with police officers operating in the area.
On hand to receive the award were members of the Police Service among them acting Deputy Commissioner Jayson Forde, Assistant Commissioners of Police, Beverly Lewis, Odette Lewis, Patsy Joseph and Anthony James along with officers of the Central Division including senior Supt Robert Hunte, ASP Richard Smith and acting Sgt. Jacey Small.
