Two men have been arrested by the Child Protection Unit in the past week and charged with sexual offences against minors.
Yesterday, a Gasparillo man appeared before San Fernando Magistrate charged with one count of sexual touching of a child.
The man was arrested and charged with offence on Monday.
Police were told that on Saturday, May 30 this year, the 15-year-old was asleep in the living room of her home when she awakened by the man, who was sexually assaulting her.
The child told her mother about the incident, and police were alerted, prompting the man to go into hiding.
He was eventually arrested with the help of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT).
In another incident, a man appeared before a Sangre Grande Magistrate yesterday charged with sexual penetration of a child, sexual touching of a child and exposing a child to pornography.
The Eastern Division Child Protection Unit (CPU) police officers arrested the 53-year-old man last Wednesday, September 9.
He was charged with one count of each offence on Monday by WPC Brooks, of the Eastern CPU.
Police, after being contacted by the victim’s mother, was told by the 12-year-old girl on Friday, July 3, that a man known to her allegedly sexually assaulted her on two occasions this year.
The victim also told police that the man sent her nude pictures of himself via WhatsApp.
