Two men, ages 25 and 29 years, are expected to appear in a virtual hearing before an Arima Magistrate today, Wednesday 28th October 2020, charged with the abduction of a female and sexual penetration of a minor.
An official release from the TTPS reports that the duo surrendered to officers of the Child Protection Unit (CPU) yesterday, Tuesday 27th October 2020.
The 16-year-old female victim told police she boarded a PH taxi at Five Rivers Junction, Arouca, to be taken to her home. Both occupants, the driver and front seat passenger, were persons known to her as they lived in her area.
Instead of taking her home, the men reportedly took her to Victory Heights, Arouca, where they allegedly forced her out of the car, held her down and both took turns sexually assaulting her.
After the ordeal, the girl made a report to the police. WPC Dorman of the Northern Division CPU, who conducted enquiries, subsequently launched a manhunt for the suspects.
However, the men surrendered to CPU officers at the Belmont Police Station, following which they were jointly charged with one count of sexual penetration of a minor and one count of abduction of a female.
The suspects will answer to the charges when the matter is heard today, at the Arima Magistrate Court.
