A UNC councillor and a WASA estate constable engaged in a heated confrontation on Tuesday morning, over the burning of tires to protest poor road conditions in Harris Village, South Oropouche.
Several residents from the area, along with the local government representative for Avocat/San Francique North, Councillor Doodnath Mayrhoo, gathered along the main road near Berridge Trace, to conduct their protest demonstration with burning tires.
However, a security officer from the Water and Sewerage Authority intervened. The security officer, who was supervising works nearby, gave his name as Keith Cyrus.
Guardian Media understands Councillor Mayrhoo and the security officer had a verbal clash and a jostle, which involved them both kicking a burning tire on and off the road.
Eventually, the tires were reloaded onto the tray of the van which brought them, and Councillor Mayrhoo and the protesters moved to another location.
