A campaign to expose what the Opposition calls the Prime Minister’s “dictatorial leadership” will form the cornerstone of the UNC’s October Revolution.
At a media conference on Thursday, Opposition leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar announced the proposed action in response to a defeated motion to remove President Paula-Mae Weekes.
In an interview with Guardian Media yesterday, Oropouche East Member of Parliament Dr Roodal Moonilal said the October Revolution will ensure the Opposition’s concerns over national issues are heard.
According to him, democracy must not be stifled.
“The political leader in the coming hours will elaborate further on our campaign dubbed the October Revolution, but this is essentially a campaign with a concerted and unrelenting effort to expose Keith Rowley and his Government as the most dictatorial and authoritarian in the history of Trinidad and Tobago.”
Moonilal said the alleged attempts to “gag” the Opposition leader during Thursday’s unprecedented sitting will be etched in the country’s history pages.
“The PNM and Keith Rowley dishonoured our Parliament by their contempt for constitutional principles and democratic values. These issues will be aired every single day by the United National Congress on different fora to engage the people of Trinidad and Tobago in a campaign of political action and political education,” he said in relation to the motion, where 24 UNC members voted for and 47 Government and Independents voted against.
Rowley had described the behaviour of the Opposition during the motion to remove the President as disgraceful and reprehensible.
